44They came up with many excuses for additional charges, such as the price of fuel or airport storage. Given this is their line of business, the reason for a quote in the first place is to give the customer some security so that they can accurately predict what they will need to spend. There is always a margin of error, but close to 100% is too broad. In our case, they said they claimed to investigate the unforeseen overcharges and saw no reason for any compensation. They missed our point, not that they should prove that these monies were paid, but that they should have known that this would be the case, which would have caused us to sell more things and ship less. Part of our losses seemed to result from incorrect advice about needing immigration status at our destination to receive the shipment and their insistence on a USD transfer that did not go through, incurring a significant loss.
Once the shipment arrived in Lima, the new moving company, Gil International Movers, gave us hours' notice, by email only, to deposit over a thousand dollars at a time to get our shipment. If we did not produce the total amount within the given time, they said the costs would continue to rise at that rate to pay for airport storage.
We'd like to ask Atlantis International to honour the original quote, within reason. We said we would be satisfied sharing the overcharges and would give them the benefit of the doubt that some things may have been beyond their control, even if the move was poorly managed. They refused, and upon informing them that we would leave a negative review, they accused us of blackmail and threatened us with legal action if we spoke up. I hope no one else falls victim to this shocking experience.
